Interesting project with the former state archaeological research body. 'INSTAR' includes 3 databases for Wood, Charcoal and Burials. Huge and minutely detailed. Hopefully, the system will be adopted as the European standard for recording details of these elements of excavations.

The Jameson Way

Glossy global extranet for Pernod Ricard's world-renowned Jameson Whiskey. It centrally controls and disseminates marketing and branding collateral. In round two of the project they nailed their style guide so I was meticulous on tone, mood, shape - tiniest details. Plus: it was a complex presentation of varied content. Merely functional, was never an option anywhere: it had to perform well techinically and look consistently excellent and on-brand.

Conversation on Democracy

This is a logo that I've designed for an important Jesuit initiative. Director Edmond Grace says its council features some "heavy hitters". The logo emphases notions of being heard, and that most crucial activity of conversation: listening.

I also designed Stationery and I'll feature it on the site soon.

Portfolio Sample Piece

A recognisible subject for portfolio purposes. I was selling my work to Newspapers and magazines so this type of image was effective.
I had Philip Glass and Robert Wilson's 'Einstein on the Beach' music theatre spectacular very much in mind. Most of us recognise Einstein but mightn't have an idea of even the most fundamental aspects of his work. He's become an image more than a scientist. A chap with mad hair who sticks his tongue out.

Best fun web project ever - for a bank! I designed, HTML'd and CSS'd the site; designed the interactive Shockwave games; sprinkled dozens of illustrations and animations throughout. I was in my element for weeks inventing the cast of characters.
We handed over the site and waited... When it went live, loads of illustrations and animations were gone. The kids would have loved them. But, I still have the original un-cut version. Happy days.

Site Developments!

My Apologies for the current state of this website. On Mon 27 June 2011, I switched to a skeleton/style-less template which I'll style and make my own. In '09, I used an off-the-shelf template which I customised, showing that I could build a site with the Joomla CMS. Now I see that this was a bad move - for a web designer. Using a pre-made template might be a mature, efficient thing to do; especially as most designers prefer to do everything ourselves (we're often labelled: 'precious') but:

The pros of this approach for a portfolio site are that

it's faster,

shows off the work you've done for clients and yourself,

and demonstrates an ability and flexibility to work with a very tricky CMS and customise pre-made templates.
