Fun with Circular motifs and type - a blank canvas for a designer

Companies Registration Office (2003)

An interesting enough job for the CRO. They didn't have any Identity or branding to speak of so it was a blank canvas in terms of design. I designed the CRO motif based on overlapping circles which worked very nicely - especially with the rounded font (Futura I think) which I'd chosen; and which I then carried through to the typographic and formal choices. A very nice client too with an appreciation for good design.

This was a freelance job via a web agency and I designed everything and did most of the HTML. It would have been even better if I'd known more than a fraction of CSS but then, very few designers in Ireland did in 2003: so the whole thing was a rather complex table-based affair.

Unusual Design Process

Strangely enough, I designed this initially in B&W. Having no colour or branding to work with, I focused on form and function. The colour was added a bit later when I was happy with how the forms came together. I have to admit, it was hard to find the design at first, having done many pencil sketches. But it was also a joy when I added the colour.

I was pleased to have done something which would be of service to all Irish Companies.
